My name is Dharman Wickremaratne and I am the Director of the Asia-Pacific Forum of Environmental Journalists(
APFEJ is dedicated to promoting fair and accurate reporting of environmental issues in the region as well as providing training and resources for journalists. Many of our members work in some of the poorest parts if the world. I think you may already realize the difficulties they face in their work.
The reason I write to you is that APFEJ Steering Group recently decided to expand our boundaries to encompass some countries.We are particularly interested in making contact and trying to establish active national chapters in following countries.
PACIFIC
Guam, Kiribati, Micronesia, Marina Islands,Nauru, Palau,
Papua New Guinea,Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
CENTRAL ASIA
Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
EAST ASIA
Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar.
At this stage we have no strong / active contacts in the region and
were hoping you could help us establish some.
APFEJ will be hold it's 18th world Congress of Environmental Journalists to be held in Sri Lanka from October 19 -22, 2009.We have set aside funding to sponsor two representatives from the above countries.This sponsorship will cover the delegate's Registration fees, transfers to hotel and airport and living expenses for 5days in Colombo during the congress period.Unfortunatel
We were hoping you may have someone in mind for this position and could possibly fund the part funding for air travel fees for him or her. If you can help we would appreciate if you could inform us before by August 18 so the necessary arrangements can be made. Selection of the participants will be done by APFEJ on a first come-first served basis. The cut-off date for receiving applications is August 18, 2009.

Along with these details, applicants are requested to scan and mail us copies of two recent published articles on subjects related to environment and development.
The Workshop organisers might find it necessary to request journalists writing in languages other than English, to also send very brief synopses (in English) of the articles being submitted.
