[creative-radio] Art Threat | Paint & piano reflect Mideast resistance

Art Threat | Paint & piano reflect Mideast resistance
Uprising by Sundus Abdul Hadi & Stefan Christoff

Artists have been deeply involved in the grassroots uprising across the Middle
East over the past months. In Cairo, where music and song built unity at Tahrir
square as the Egyptian people challenged the dictatorial Mubarak regime,
imagery of the revolutionary ideas that are driving the protests has been
created, posted and remixed across the internet, imagery that will certainly
inspire generations in the future.

In celebration of the profound artwork emerging from the Middle East at this
time of struggle, we present Uprising, a collaborative work mixing painting and
piano. Uprising is an attempt to both cherish and communitcate the libratory
spirit of the contemporary protests across the region, a spirit that stands
with the people on the streets and against the foreign intervention currently
taking place in Libya that sounds horrible echos of colonial pasts.

Uprising is a mixed-media painting by Sundus Abdul Hadi in collaboration with
her sister Tamara Abdul Hadi's photography, in which her flying figures grace
the work. Visuals go hand in hand with my piano composition. Uprising is
inspired by the recent uprisings around the Middle East and aims to contribute
to the growing body of incredible artistic reflections on the current
revolutions happening across the region.

The youth of Tunisia and Egypt have moved the youth of Libya, Iraq, Palestine,
Morocco, Algeria, Bahrain and other countries in the Middle East through the
strength of people power, a deep hope for a better future, and an empowered
sense of self and community. Today's uprisings build on a long history of
popular movements in the region in past centuries, from the uprisings that
challenged European colonial rule, to the ongoing uprising against Israeli
apartheid in occupied Palestine. Ultimately, this painting is a poetic
rendering of Arab youth journeying into a brighter future, souls that have lost
their lives in the fight for collective freedom taking flight, and the living
struggling to make the impossible possible and ultimate deliverance ... if not
in reality, then perhaps in dreams. It is Up-rising, rising up.

[creative-radio] Press Release: Sajama Cut To Celebrate Record Store Day With The UK Label

SAJAMA CUT TO CELEBRATE
RECORD STORE DAY WITH THE UK LABEL

Jakarta, April 16th 2011

Record Store Day which falls on Saturday, April 16, 2011 has moved the hearts of Sajama Cut to do something for the world of music. "Chinese Magicians" is a new digital EP released by Sajama Cut under the UK label, namely Lazy Acre Records. Extended Play which contains three songs would offer two singles from the latest album "Manimal" (Painting / Pantings + Twice) and brand new song, titled "Evil Twin".

Involvement from Lazy Acre Records to release "Chinese Magicians" EP is considered very attractive for Sajama Cut. "This EP should be an entry that is good enough for our small world, to people who may not yet familiar with us." said Marcel Thee, vocalist Sajama Cut. This EP can be heard directly on the website Lazy Acre Records (www.lazyacrerecords.co.uk) starting from April 16, 2011.

Sajama Cut is a Jakarta-based indie band and well-known for their dynamic change of musical styles, which ranges from baroque, noise, ambient, indie rock, lo-fi, and electronica. After line-up change, the band consists of their only one original member and also the front man, Marcel Thee (vocals, guitars, various instruments), Dion Panlima Reza (guitars, vocals, percussion, synths), Randy Apriza Akbar (bass, vocals), Vishnu Aji (keyboards, synths, samplers, vocals), Hans Citra Patria (percussion, synths), and Banu satrio (drums, percussion, vocals). The band has released a new single "Paintings/Pantings" in April 2010 as well as the band were preparing for the the new album. Finally, "Manimal"—the band's LP follow-up to single "Paintings/Pantings"—was released on The Bronze Medal Recording Company and distributed by Demajors in October 2010. The album "Manimal" also made critically-acclaimed for their new sounds. "Manimal" was taken from the title series about an 80's hero who can turn himself into various animals to confront their enemies.

in Germany

We are calling for solidarity and support!
We want normal housing! Not in the refugee lager - camp
We are the asylum seekers living in Industrie.str 29, Zella Mehlis lager

- We want to tell the world that our situation got worse and worse day

rooms are cold , and very cold when temperature gets under -10° c.

- We live in rooms with small ironic beds from the dark ages, we can't
sleep even like human does. the bed's cloths is old, they keep washing it
from few years and giving it back to us every Wednesday.

- We are around 170 residents in this lager, most of us don't get any
money, no voucher for cloths, except voucher for food, which can't be used
to buy anything else except food.

- We cannot get a permission to visit the doctor when we get sick, we get
it when social worker wants to give.

- We are isolated from the world, with all what has the word 'Isolation'
of means.

- We are punished just because we are asylum seekers here in Germany.

with that been said, we are the asylum seekers of zella mehlis demand:

1. This lager TO BE CLOSED, and to live in normal apartments, where we can
have some of our dignity back.

3. We ask for to be given permission to visit the doctor right when we are

Creative-Radio is an independent forum for people active in or interested in the use of radio in development, in particular promoting public health, improved education, protection of the environment, improved livelihoods, good governance and conflict mitigation. Since it started in 1996, Creative-Radio has been in the forefront of radio's resurgence as a tool for social change and peace-building, and it helps promote best practice in these areas.
