[creative-radio] Nigerian Embassy deportation hearing in Köln – Less than 10 refugees participated

Nigerian Embassy deportation hearing in Köln – Less than 10 refugees
participated

About 20 Activists assembled on Tuesday 22.11.11 at 8am to protest the
Nigerian Embassy deportation hearing taking place at the Central
Foreigners Office, Am Blaubach 13, Köln.

The Central Foreigners Office (Z.A.B) Köln is one amongst notable
institutions that facilitate the traumatisation of refugees through abuses
in the likes of country embassy identification of the Victims for
deportation.

This protest is in line with "The VOICE Refugee Forum" commitment to
expose the deportations and the corrupt collaboration of refugee countries
with the German deportation authorities where the Nigerian embassy is
playing the leading role.

With active support from Activists of "Autonomy Zentrum" and other persons
and groups in Köln, an intention to begin with a community breakfast was
interrupted as the Police in suspicion approached the gathering to
question our agenda.
The police tried their usual threat of penalty and telephone parade but
the Activists expressed their determination of of no fear as they
themselves were informed of the legal basis of such actions.

In a bid to avoid unnecessary distraction as the Police would like it, the
activists unanimously agreed on a spontaneous registration but the
responsible Officials still went further to petition the availability of
Banner at the Venue.

Amongst 22 refugees invited for that day, less than 10 refugees within
Bayern and Rheinland Pfalz appeared for the exercise.

Participating refugees were informed on the basis of the invitation to the
hearing and advised on possibilities to save themselves from deportation.

We hereby call on Refugees and Activists to support the planned protest
action at the Nigerian Embassy premises for its leading role in country
embassy deportation collaboration.

The Nigerian Embassy is known for its monthly mobile deportation hearing
in different German Cities and we are committed to protest their presence
at any possible hearing.

The preparatory meeting for the Berlin Action is expected to take place in
Stuttgart on a date that is yet to be decided.

Refugee support groups should endeavour to mobilise refugees in their
region for this action as the fight against one deportation affects all.

The Colonial Collaboration of the Nigerian Embassy with the German State!

[creative-radio] IF COMMUNITY MEDIA IS THE ANSWER, WHAT IS THE QUESTION?

International Community Media Conference - University of Ibadan, Nigeria -

IF COMMUNITY MEDIA IS THE ANSWER, WHAT IS THE QUESTION?

The Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, >
Nigeria; the Institute for Media and Society (IMS), Lagos, Nigeria; the
African Languages Technology Initiative (ALT-I), Ibadan, Nigeria; and the
Nigerian Community Radio Coalition jointly invite you to an international
conference to commemorate the 75th Birthday Anniversary of Prof Alfred
Opubor, first Nigerian professor of Mass Communication.

THEME: IF COMMUNITY MEDIA IS THE ANSWER, WHAT IS THE QUESTION?² Those were
the words of the first Nigerian Professor of Mass Communication,

Professor Alfred Opubor, and the title of one of his most discussed
articles Though that question was raised in 2000 in a book published by
UNESCO, the issues that gave rise to it are still as urgent and improperly
understood as they were then. The recent political events in the MENA
(Middle East and North Africa) region, the recent historic
civilian-to-civilian transition in Zambia, the seemingly unending failure
of the big media to significantly bring about participation and access; the
recourse to neoliberal policies by African Œdemocracies¹ and the impact of
that on the big media; are some of the issues that necessitate a thorough
re-examination of that decade-old witticism. If community media is the
answer, what indeed is the question? And how is it being answered? Are
there more questions than there were? What are they?

SUB-THEMES: Paper abstracts and proposals for project demonstrations are
welcome on the following subthemes:

> · Community Media and new media technologies
> · Community media, policy and regulation
> · Community media, social media and social protest
> · Community media and empowerment/development: actual stories and
potentials

> · Community media, community/civic engagement and democracy
> · Research approaches in (and to) community media
> · Community media and gender
> · Community media and popular culture
> · Community media and diasporas

DATE: 27-29 March, 2012

> VENUE: Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Nigeria

> TIMELINES:

> Deadline for submission of abstracts = Nov 30, 2011

> Notification of writers of successful abstracts = Dec 20, 2011

> Deadline for submission of full paper = Feb 20, 2012

FEES: heavily subsidised to cover conference materials, lunches and teas.

[creative-radio] Radio job opening here in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

Subject: [Stubblefield] job opening here in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
To: WBAIProducers@yahoogroups.com, grc@peak.org,
stubblefield@prometheusradio.org

Hello,

I'm back with another job opening here in Kandahar, Afghanistan.

I work with a USAID implementing partner on an agricultural stabilization
project in southern Afghanistan. We are in negotiations with the U.S.
military to transfer ownership of an army-run FM radio station to the
Afghan government, specifically the Directorate of Agriculture, Irrigation
and Livestock (DAIL). I'm looking for someone who can come over for 4-6
months and help us transfer assets from the army to DAIL, train Afghan
staff, come up with a preliminary Pashto program schedule and get this
thing back up and running. In addition, the army is handing over a number
of radios in a box (RIABs) and we want to put these out in district DAIL
offices and train these guys as well.

I will soon be posting the formal Scope of Work, but that's it in a
nutshell. You would live in a secure compound in downtown Kandahar, with
some travel to military bases as needed. Looking for someone with
experience commensurate to the task, especially those who've done this sort
of thing abroad. Pay based on experience, with plenty of premiums given
the kinetic environment.

Now let me be frank in saying that Kandahar has gotten very frisky of
late. Coordinated attacks are becoming more frequent and more violent.
Our compound was hit by a suicide bomber just last week. No one was hurt,
thanks to the ineptness of the attackers. But be advised that the job
carries inherent risks.

So if you have the experience and are not deterred by the above, do send me
your CV. This position will be filled around the first of the year.

All best,
Will Everett
