Broadcasters of Nepal
To: asiapacific-general@lists.amarc.org

*AMARC Empowering Women Community Radio Broadcasters of Nepal*

** **

*July 16 2012, Kathmandu.* World Association of Community Radio
Broadcasters (AMARC Asia Pacific) has successfully implemented an
integrated program for strengthening production and networking capacity of
women community broadcasters in Nepal. It covered women broadcasters from
50 community radio stations. A follow up training workshop and networking
meeting was held in Pokhara from 10-11 July 2012 as a concluding activity
of the program.****

** **

The empowerment program was launched in August 2011 in partnership with
Association of Community Radio Broadcasters of Nepal (ACORAB). Participants
of the program have learnt to strengthen their networks to advocate for
equal access to the airwaves and to promote women's participation at all
levels of decision making in community radios. It has also increased their
capacity for field and studio based production skills, researching and
interviewing, using computer based technology for production, and working
on specific and local thematic areas of coverage. The program consisted of
capacity building workshops, individual mentoring for the participants,
exposure to AMARC's global broadcasting campaigns, opportunities for
participation in regional workshops, and strategising for network building.*
***

** **

Through gender sensitive programming, giving voice to women of the
community, and to the civil society and human rights organisations, the
program has made significant contribution towards empowering radio
audiences, especially women audiences and in promoting media plurality.****

** **

Participants of the Empowering Women Community Radio Broadcasters program
have joined the Women's International Network of community broadcasters to
learn and to contribute to the global movement to empower women through
community radios.****

** **

"The training has imparted additional skills, new perspective and
approaches towards issues that will help us improve our daily radio
programmes," said Ambika Rana of Himchuli FM, Pokhara in the concluding
meeting. "It has taught me research and interview skills, editing and
mixing, which will greatly aid in preparing good radio programs" said Rupa
Basnet of Radio Galkot of West Nepal. "The program has strengthened me not
only as a broadcaster but as a woman and increased my capacity to assert my
rightful place in the society and to contribute for the development of
fellow women community members," said Yam Kumari KC of Radio Myagdi.****

** **

In his concluding observations, Ashish Sen, President of AMARC Asia Pacific
has said that "the program for Empowering Women Community Radio
Broadcasters of Nepal is part of AMARC's commitment for strengthening the
position of women community broadcasters throughout the Asia Pacific
region. AMARC will continue to organise creative platforms for community
broadcasters to learn new ideas and technology, strengthen their capacity
to produce and share in order to make meaningful and relevant contributions
to their respective communities."****

** **

-End-****

** **

AMARC is an international non-governmental organization serving the
community radio movement in over 110 countries, and advocating for the
right to communicate at the international, national, local and neighborhood
levels. AMARC has an International Secretariat in Montreal. It has regional
sections in Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific. For more information,

Kathmandu, July 9, 2012****

** **

Dear members of AMARC,****

** **
This is a call for proposals for hosting the third regional
assembly/conference of AMARC Asia Pacific. Interested community radio
station, association, and federation of community radios in the Asia
Pacific region are welcome to send their proposals. ****** **Please follow
the format given below for submitting your proposals. ****** **The Regional
Board of AMARC Asia Pacific will evaluate the proposals and arrive at a
final decision. The board may seek information beyond what is provided in
the first proposal for analysing the proposals. At the second stage of

development of the CR sector in a sub-region and commit to greater resource
mobilisation. ****

* *

The third AMARC Asia-Pacific Conference is expected to take place in
November 2013 at a date to be determined later by Regional Board of AMARC
Asia Pacific in consultation with the local host. The main aim of the
conference is to ensure active participation of the Asia-Pacific members of
AMARC in what will be a major step forward for development of our network
in the region and the sector as a whole in the Asia-Pacific region. ****

If you wish to respond to this challenge please let us know by

proposing organization clearly specifying the person designated to
coordinate with AMARC. *

* *

Please note that AMARC is a grassroots organization, driven by its members
and their interests. In the interest of solidarity and ensuring maximum
participation, preference will be given to proposals that can ensure
facilitating travel expenses and reasonably priced, clean accommodation and
conference venue, thus bringing the maximum number of participants to the
meeting. *Value will be given to proposals offering
partnerships/collaborations with women organizations, indigenous people's
organizations, and organizations working for minorities such as migrant
people, LGBTI community, etc. *

[creative-radio] music! Duet for Abdelrazik. Shalabi/Christoff

* Duet for Abdelrazik | Sam Shalabi & Stefan Christoff

http://howlarts.net/post/25029838967/duet-for-abdelrazik-sam-shalabi-stefan-christoff

Listen to a beautiful track from the Duets for Abdelrazik album, featuring Sam
Shalabi on oud and Stefan Christoff on piano. Recorded at Hotel 2 Tango studios
in winter 2011, Duets for Abdelrazik is a sonic solidarity project, musical
support for Abdelrazik's ongoing struggle for justice.

Abousfian Abdelrazik, a Sudanese-Canadian living in Montreal, was jailed on the
recommendation of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) in Sudan.
With the direct complicity and involvement of the Canadian government,
Abdelrazik was jailed without trail and tortured in Sudan until Abdelrazik
returned to Canada in 2009 after a long grassroots solidarity campaign.

Duets for Abdelrazik will launch in Montreal on 19/06 at Casa del Popolo during
the Suoni per il Popolo festival. Please post and share this duet from Sam
Shalabi and Stefan Christoff, an excerpt from the album being released by the
Howl! arts collective in Montreal.

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Please feel free to share this opportunity through your networks.

WUSC is pleased to launch this year's National Research Seminar and to
celebrate its first decade. Inaugurated by John Ralston Saul in 2003, the
National Research Seminar explores a particular challenge in international
development and provides a tremendous platform for emerging scholars to
share their research findings with university and college students, faculty
members, practitioners and policy makers from across Canada and the world.

The National Research Seminar takes place each year as part of WUSC's
International Forum, which will be held in Ottawa, November 1-3, 2012.

THEME TO BE ADDRESSED
This year WUSC will explore youth and development in relation to innovation
in sustainable development. Are we meeting youth aspirations? Many parts of
the developing world are experiencing a rapidly growing youth population
and facing high levels of unemployment, a problem that has been further
exacerbated by the world economic crisis in 2008. Youth, particularly
girls, are often the most vulnerable to the effects of poverty and a link
has been drawn between lack of access of youth to employment opportunities
and participation in illegal and violent activities. At the same time,
youth have been playing a strong leadership role in social and political
movements around the world, including the "Arab Spring".

WUSC is seeking expressions of interest from emerging researchers from
different disciplines and fields of study whose research touches on the
challenges or opportunities facing youth in terms of development. In
particular, WUSC's International Forum and National Research Seminar will
explore the social and political participation of youth and challenges and
opportunities related to employment and entrepreneurship.

SELECTION CRITERIA AND PROCESS
WUSC welcomes expressions of interest from emerging scholars and
researchers from a cross-section of disciplines, sectors and regions. This
includes Canadians engaged in international issues and southern-based
researchers. We invite applicants to challenge the status quo and examine
emerging ideas that can and do transform development.

This year, up to four scholars will be selected to present.

Eligible applicants include individuals currently enrolled in a PhD
program, who have recently completed a PhD or are new faculty members at a
university or college. WUSC also encourages applications from Masters
students who are conducting original research related to the theme.

The presentation should be based upon research that is well advanced or
completed. Preference will also be given to presentations focused on
countries where WUSC or its partner organizations (CECI, Farm Radio
International, MATCH International) are present and that will inspire and
motivate individuals to share knowledge and take action. Regions include:
The Americas – Bolivia, Guatemala, Peru, Haiti, Canada; Africa – Burkina
Faso, Botswana, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Malawi, Niger, Senegal, South
Sudan; Asia – Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal, Vietnam.

FORMAT
2-3 page summary of your proposed presentation in which you:

Outline the presentation purpose and intent
Briefly describe your research findings and how they relate to the theme
Address policy implications or other implications in terms of action in
addressing the issue

Bonjour,

vous énoncerez le but et l'objectif de la présentation;
le thème;
