* background info on "Democracy in Haiti" Mixtape
http://nomadicwax.bandcamp.com/track/democracy-in-haiti-mixtape

Serving as the sister project to the upcoming Nomadic Wax documentary film,
"Democracy in Haiti," the Democracy in Haiti Mixtape highlights the political,
cultural and social issues facing Haitian youth after the earthquake that
struck the country in January 2010. The third film in the "Democracy In ..."
series, "Democracy in Haiti" presents to audiences Haitian youth who have been
active in the rebuilding of their country. In Haiti the youth make up the
largest percentage of the population, yet, their voice is often ignored in
discussions of political importance.

Serving as an outlet for Haitian youth to bring forth their voice, "Democracy
in Haiti" spotlights several young artists who have taken active roles in the
reformation of Haiti's cultural and political stature. Lena Jackson, the
Nomadic Wax Director of Photography for the "Democracy in Haiti" film, recently
returned to the country to document the events of the second round presidential
elections and further capture the voice of Haitian youth on film. "Democracy in
Haiti" helps audiences understand the important role Haitian youth must play in
the foundation of Haiti's political and social future. Featuring talent from
Haiti and the Haitian Diaspora around the world, the Democracy in Haiti Mixtape
brings together a diverse group of hip-hop artists contributing verses that
emphasize the socio-political issues currently facing Haitian society. As the
audio backdrop to the "Democracy in Haiti" film, the Democracy in Haiti Mixtape
encourages Haitian youth to stand up and take part in the successful rebuilding
of their nation's society.

The Democracy in Haiti Mixtape is mixed by DJ Nio of Zero Plastica and produced
by Magee McIlvaine of Nomadic Wax, Vox Sambou and DJ Nio. Mastered and
engineered by Dan Cantor of Notable Productions.

[creative-radio] [info] BANGKUTAMAN “Catch Me When I Fall”

Semangat
kebersamaan di single kedua

"Catch Me When I Fall"

Bangkutaman mengangkat semangat

Jakarta [26/01/11]-Setelah single "Ode Buat
melepas single kedua mereka bertajuk "Catch Me When I Fall".
dirilis Jangan Marah Records.
masyarakatnya tetap memakai topeng egoisme. Semua saling sikut, saling
di Catch Me When I Fall tadi benar-benar tidak sebatas lirik, namun juga
air.

Bangkutaman
adalah band yang terbentuk di Jogjakarta tahun 1999. Diawaki oleh W.Nugroho
[bas/vokal/harmonika], J.Irwin [ gitar/vokal], Dedyk E. [dram], sepanjang karir
Records.

[creative-radio] Art Threat | Paint & piano reflect Mideast resistance

Art Threat | Paint & piano reflect Mideast resistance
Uprising by Sundus Abdul Hadi & Stefan Christoff

* view painting & download piano track at:
http://artthreat.net/2011/04/uprising-sundus-abdul-hadi-christoff/

Artists have been deeply involved in the grassroots uprising across the Middle
East over the past months. In Cairo, where music and song built unity at Tahrir
square as the Egyptian people challenged the dictatorial Mubarak regime,
imagery of the revolutionary ideas that are driving the protests has been
created, posted and remixed across the internet, imagery that will certainly
inspire generations in the future.

In celebration of the profound artwork emerging from the Middle East at this
time of struggle, we present Uprising, a collaborative work mixing painting and
piano. Uprising is an attempt to both cherish and communitcate the libratory
spirit of the contemporary protests across the region, a spirit that stands
with the people on the streets and against the foreign intervention currently
taking place in Libya that sounds horrible echos of colonial pasts.

Uprising is a mixed-media painting by Sundus Abdul Hadi in collaboration with
her sister Tamara Abdul Hadi's photography, in which her flying figures grace
the work. Visuals go hand in hand with my piano composition. Uprising is
inspired by the recent uprisings around the Middle East and aims to contribute
to the growing body of incredible artistic reflections on the current
revolutions happening across the region.

The youth of Tunisia and Egypt have moved the youth of Libya, Iraq, Palestine,
Morocco, Algeria, Bahrain and other countries in the Middle East through the
strength of people power, a deep hope for a better future, and an empowered
sense of self and community. Today's uprisings build on a long history of
popular movements in the region in past centuries, from the uprisings that
challenged European colonial rule, to the ongoing uprising against Israeli
apartheid in occupied Palestine. Ultimately, this painting is a poetic
rendering of Arab youth journeying into a brighter future, souls that have lost
their lives in the fight for collective freedom taking flight, and the living
struggling to make the impossible possible and ultimate deliverance ... if not
in reality, then perhaps in dreams. It is Up-rising, rising up.

Creative-Radio is an independent forum for people active in or interested in the use of radio in development, in particular promoting public health, improved education, protection of the environment, improved livelihoods, good governance and conflict mitigation. Since it started in 1996, Creative-Radio has been in the forefront of radio's resurgence as a tool for social change and peace-building, and it helps promote best practice in these areas.
