* Duet for Abdelrazik | Matana Roberts & Stefan Christoff
listen / download track at :
http://howlarts.net/post/28260791848/duet-for-abdelrazik-matana-christoff
Listen to the title track from Duets for Abdelrazik, a musical collaboration
between celebrated jazz saxophonist Matana Roberts and pianist/community
activist Stefan Christoff.
Recorded in 2010 at Hotel2Tango studios in Montreal, on a freezing winter
morning by Thierry Amar, this duet sparked a creative process leading to the
Duets for Abdelrazik album, released on 06/2012 at the Suoni per il Popolo.
Duets for Abdelrazik features the artistic work of community-driven musicians
in Montreal, for a series of beautiful collective compositions, that express
musical solidarity with the struggle of Abousfian Abdelrazik for justice,
attempting to speak artistically to the incredible humanity of Abdelrazik's
struggle against government-driven injustice, torture and imprisonment without
trial.

* Metro Man, Metro Woman - by Norman Nawrocki
http://howlarts.net/post/16409522464/metro-man-metro-woman
A poem written to highlight struggles of the homeless during Montreal winter.
Written by Norman Nawrocki and published by Howl! arts collective after
Nawrocki read the poem at an artistic action to remember Farshad Mohammadi, a
homeless man killed by Montreal police on at métro Bonaventure.
* October 12 - by Alejandro Saravia.
http://howlarts.net/post/16270119669/october-12-by-alejandro-saravia
Howl! arts collective is sharing "October 12" by poet Alejandro Saravia, who
writes; "If Ralph Ellison were a Quebecois in the year 2012, he would still
write Invisible Man, L?homme invisible. Almost sixty years have passed since
the African American author published a text about the negation of the other.
We live in a province that suffers the blindness of being a 'developed' society
that gets drunk with the riches created by those who toil in the anonymity of
being 'the other', the dark skinned, the immigrant."
* Jen Reimer and Max Stein at Howl!
http://howlarts.net/post/17540016507/jen-reimer-and-max-stein-at-howl
Jen Reimer and Max Stein create site-specific soundscapes for horn and live
electronics. Their compositions are conceived, composed, rehearsed and
performed and recorded in the spaces themselves. Their piece for Howl IV at
Sala Rosa was unique because it was the project's first performance in a venue.
To create movement and transience in their piece, they situated four smaller
speakers in addition to the house speakers to create a surround-sound harmonic
soundscape.
* Butterfly Ashes by Moe Clark
http://howlarts.net/post/17608453377/butterfly-ashes-by-moe-clark
"Butterfly Ashes" is a poetic ode, a call to arms, to honour the missing and
murdered Aboriginal women in Canada. Butterfly Ashes portrays the vulnerable
connection between language and meaning, between media and truth, between the
migratory patterns of Monarch butterflies and the historical nomadic routes of
aboriginal women and now the contemporary roads they now travel down.
* My Old Tapes by Cop Car Bonfire
http://howlarts.net/post/17780015385/my-old-tapes-by-cop-car-bonfire
Listen to "My Old Tapes" by Cop Car Bonfire, a track from the "Earthquake" E.P,
the first official release by artist Tim Lafontaine. "The album inspired by
planet earth and plate tectonics. The earth is shifting right below us, people
tend to forget this. Reality is unstable, what does this say about
composition," writes Lafontaine.
