[creative-radio] www.africanelections.org - Elections Project

A
number of West African countries, namely Ghana, Guinea, and Cote
d¡lvoire, will organize elections this year and 2009. Access to
balanced and unbiased information on elections is still a key problem
in these countries.

The problem is compounded by lack of skills required by the media to
navigate the sometimes difficult space of elections. Again, media
professionals in these countries lack information and knowledge
resources to report elections in a balanced and unbiased manner.

In order to provide elections information and knowledge at one central point, the International Institute for ICT Journalism(www.penplusbytes.org) in partnership and with funding from the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) and other partners are embarking on West African Elections Information and Knowledge Project.

The project covering Ghana, Guinea and Cote d'lvoire is made up of six
key components namely training of senior editors, journalists and
reporters as well as developing and disseminating of an Election
Reporting Guide for the Media, SMS/Mobile application in election
coverage and monitoring, Information and Knowledge Online Portal,
Knowledge products for the media and Media Content Monitoring.

The elections portal is live and provides up to the minute elections news, features, live results, analysis and more
