Dear friends in abroad, ****

** **

As you know that SL is still struggling in finding an attractive and
alternative model to trigger the active community radio movement in SL. I
think it's more than enough that most of us glorifying the Sri Lankan *myth
of Community radio*. ****

** **

In the first world radio day conference, assisted by the ICT agency of Sri
Lanka, our newly elected members of Sri Lankan CR forum, agreed to create
an online community radio model – a national one, in which most of the core
principles of CR could be applied and a wider platform can be created for
the betterment of the voiceless community. ****

** **

In this case, we are planning for an online community radio – at a national
level, this can only be a model for us to trigger the dialogue on CR and
produce some quality media outputs that can cater the disadvantaged. I am
as head of the forum, seeking your consultation, advice, suggestions,
knowledge inputs and guidance on following. ****

** **

We needs to learn a successful experience in connecting mobile phone
directly to the online radio****

Can it be a bilingual or trilingual media platform - I am preferred to make
it in Sinhala, Tamil, and English? ****

Any simple or successful experience in reaching the civil society via
mobile phones. We too have some successful initiatives funded by ICTA. ****

Does anyone have a best way of using online platform for dialogue with
civil society? it can be forum, blog, social media or anything. ****

Any experience in recording automatically the phone calls, Skype calls an,
ect so that civil society can participate in programme making. We have
initiative in SL called *techkatha*. I am keen on more cases. ****

I am planning to have at least 30 regional journalists/*Nenasala* operators
(Rural access centre) who can communicate and contribute us in sharing
public concerns with us. ****

Since this is going to be a muti-lingual platform, any user-friendly way of
engaging podcasting in a manner that we can categorise podcasting according
to the language. ****

Any experience in transmitting the webcasting through a FM radio channel? **
**

What could be the best server? ****

What could be the best streamer? ****

What could be the software's that could be used for this purpose? ****

If anything you think that I could consider..? ****

** **

I hope we can get some expertise from ICTA, which is an apex body of SL
government to implement ITC initiatives. But it's momentary for to approach
them with some homework's. ****

** **

I would greatly appreciate in reviewing a mail, link, case, contact and
call from you. ****

[creative-radio] "Community Media & the Arab Spring" International Conference will start tomorrow in Tunisia

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Secretariat AMARC <secretariat@si.amarc.org>

Subject: [Amarc-info-en] "Community Media and the Arab Spring"
International Conference will start tomorrow in Tunisia
To: Marcelo Solervicens <secretariat@si.amarc.org>

*"Community Media and the Arab Spring" International Conference will start
tomorrow in Tunisia
*

******

Montreal, March 8th, 2012. The Middle East and North Africa Community Media
Working Group, the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters
(AMARC) the Community Media Network (CMN), International Media Support
(IMS) and Inter Press Service, with the support of Oxfam Novib, UNESCO, EED
and Open Society Foundation (OSF), organize the first International
Conference on Community Media and the Arab Spring, that will be held at
Hotel Majestic, Tunis, March 9-10, 2012. For registration and further
information, please visit here

http://www2.amarc.org/node/290 or contact AMARC at secretariat@si.amarc.org
****

The event will gather more than a hundred freedom of expression and
communication rights activists as well as practitioners and stakeholders of
the community media movement. The International Conference on Community
Media and the Arab Spring will facilitate reflection on what has been
achieved so far, clarify challenges and define strategies for the right to
communicate in the region.

****

In announcing the Conference, Maria Pia Matta, AMARC's president, said that
"holding the first conference on community media in the Middle East and
North Africa in Tunisia is a symbol of the recognition of the social and
political movement that started the Arab Spring and opened the way to media
and political pluralism. In this perspective, implementation of
international human rights standards, essential to democratic societies, is
a fundamental challenge for all social actors of the region."

****

The first regional conference on Community Media and the Arab Spring will
allow experiences sharing and definition of strategies for media pluralism
and independence; for democratic, equitable and sustainable development;
and for the promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity in the
Mediterranean region.

****

AMARC has been active for several years in the MENA region, sharing the
community radio experience as an essential component of democratic
development. AMARC was a founder, in 2004, of the IFEX Tunisia Monitoring
Group. In November 2006, the community radio movement and stakeholders
gathered for the AMARC 9 world conference in Amman, Jordan, hosted by
Ammannet, the pioneering community radio of the Middle East. In 2007, at
the AMARC Africa and MENA Conference, in Rabat, Morocco, advocacy
strategies were reinforced. In 2011, the Arab Spring has brought the
emergence of new community radios in Tunisia and paved the way for concrete
possibilities elsewhere. In collaboration with IMS, CMN and other freedom
of expression partners, AMARC has shared knowledge and supported the
emergence of pluralistic and independent media.

****

*Through service to members, networking and project implementation, the
World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters AMARC, brings together a
network of more than 4,000 community radios, Federations and community
media stakeholders in more than 130 countries. The main global impact of
AMARC since its creation in 1983, has been to accompany and support the
establishment of a worldwide community radio sector that has democratized
the media sector. AMARC advocates for the right to communicate at the
international, national, local and neighbourhood levels and defends and
promotes the interests of the community radio movement through solidarity,
networking and Cooperation.*

10,000€ will be awarded at the 40th anniversary of The German Children's
Fund Gala celebrationon on March 11th, 2012 in the Berliner Friedrichstadt
Palast. Four projects have been selected by the jury from more than 100
projects benefiting children and youth that were submitted for the

Berlin. Radijojo's Media Summercamp project will be introduced by T.V.
host, Ingo Dubinski in a short clip that was filmed in Berlin's Wedding

The Radijojo Media Summercamp is a project that documents cross-cultural
encounters among children via video-conferences with their peers on 5
continents. In these exchanges, the children discuss a multitude of
subjects, ranging from daily life at school, on the Rights of the Child, on
climate change to inter-religious dialogue. The children that participated
in these exchanges became acquainted with foreign countries and cultures in
addition to having discussed the issues that most affect their respective
communities in a the realization that these global challenges can only be
faced in a concerted effort.

The "Goldene Göre Prize" of the German Children's Fund, (Deutsches
Kinderhilfswerk) has the highest endowment for a prize for child and youth
