((((( WGXC/Prometheus Radio Project Station Barnraising )))))
This September, Prometheus Radio Project and WGXC will hold Prometheus's 12th community radio barnraising. Radio barnraisings are weekend-long radio and movement-building events. Individuals from the local community, participatory media advocates, and artists from around the country will converge in Hudson, NY to share ideas, experiences, skills and build infrastructure to get WGXC's full-power community radio station on the air later this fall. The Prometheus Radio Project has helped many groups, including farmworker unions, civil rights groups, and rural arts organizations build their stations while training a new generation of radio organizers across the country. The collaboration with WGXC will be Prometheus's first full-power barnraising. This new 3,300-watt station, decentralized with studios in Cairo, Catskill, and Hudson, will be much more than just a radio station, with regular exhibitions and events, ongoing media trainings, a news blog, and archived community meetings. WGXC will reveal its initial broadcast schedule Sunday, Sept. 26 at a Barnraising event.

Creative-Radio is an independent forum for people active in or interested in the use of radio in development, in particular promoting public health, improved education, protection of the environment, improved livelihoods, good governance and conflict mitigation. Since it started in 1996, Creative-Radio has been in the forefront of radio's resurgence as a tool for social change and peace-building, and it helps promote best practice in these areas.
