http://news.peacefmonline.com/news/200911/31224.php

[excerpt]

Mr Paul Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), has
stressed that radio must be used as a tool for community mobilization and
development.

Addressing a durbar to mark the 10th anniversary celebration of Radio
Peace in Winneba, Mr Adu-Gyamfi commended the station for its excellent
performance over the years.

He said Radio Peace broadcasts 80 percent of its programmes in Mfantse,
Awutu and Effutu and the remaining 20 percent in English, which makes it
to have a sense of belonging.

Russian independent media facing testing times

[excerpt]

Journalists from small independent radio stations across Russia have been
told they must go online and embrace social networking to help them
survive.

The Yekaterinburg Independent Radio Festival has heard that many radio
stations are struggling with few staff and reduced incomes.

They've been urged to expand on to digital platforms and reach new audiences.

Climate Catastrophe

Pakistan is one of those countries, which make comparatively insignificant contribution to the causes of climate change but are extremely vulnerable to its effects. From coastal populations in the south to those relying on snow-fed rivers for agriculture in the north have become vulnerable communities. Agricultural productivity has been hit hard by the changes in land and water regimes. According to the officials, dry lands areas in arid and semi-arid regions are most vulnerable and affected agriculture productivity, putting the country's food security at risk. The country intends to develop efficient water management systems, create mass awareness campaign and change cropping patterns. However these measures need additional financial resources that are already scarce. Tragic part of the story is that the country's vulnerability to climate change is inflamed by apparent failures in governance, non-sustainable use of resources and ignorance.
