[creative-radio] Managing Radio - Paperback now available

--- Apologies for cross-posting---

Why successful radio managers do the things they do

A valuable guide to managing radio stations, first launched as a
download last year, has now been made available as a paperback book.

"Managing Radio" is the first detailed and comprehensive practical guide
to all the essential elements of managing radio stations. It covers the
management of commercial, public service and community radio stations
and the wide range of new DAB, online, web and independent production
opportunities.

A useful text for students studying the theory and practice of managing
radio, it is also an authoritative hands-on guide to setting up a
station or radio service from scratch. It explores how to create
sustainable radio through managing for profit, public service or the
participation of the audience in all parts of the station.

"Managing Radio" provides useful practical advice, examples of
contemporary radio management practices and case studies of radio
management in action, backed up with references to wider academic
reading in media, business and cultural studies.

Editor Brian Lister explained that the publication grew out of a
collaborative project between three authors who have worked together on
radio management courses for Sunderland University's successful MA in
Radio Production and Management: "The book was originally commissioned
by a major academic publisher, but when they pulled out last year we
decided to publish the work ourselves.

The authors include Caroline Mitchell who is Senior Lecturer in Radio at
the University of Sunderland and a trainer and consultant in community
media. She was previously Head of Radio at the University where she
established the MA in Radio (Production and Management). She has
produced research publications in the area of radio studies, women and
radio and community radio and has over 20 years experience of advising
community radio groups in the area of radio training and setting up
participatory radio station structures and programming.

Dr. Anthony O'Shea is Senior Lecturer in Organisational Studies and
Organisational Theory, University of Sunderland, UK. He has published
widely in the area of organisational studies, organisational theory and
critical management studies and collaborated on conference papers in
radio management.

Brian Lister is a well-known commercial radio manager of many years
standing, a consultant and trainer who has also aided numerous groups to
gain commercial and community radio licences. He is also a visiting
lecturer in radio production and management at the University of
Sunderland.
