[creative-radio] Fighting FTAs radio interview series

* Fighting FTAs radio interview series

Listen to a series of interviews produced for bilaterals.org, a contemporary
audio review on the international state of free trade policy, focusing on
regional and bilateral trade accords and their impacts on the environment,
people, economies around the world.

This interview series features rare voices of progressive political analysts,
labour organizers, independent journalists and grassroots people's movements
from around the world, who offer critical views on the present-day currents of
corporate and state driven 'free trade' policy in the twenty first century,
produced by journalist Stefan Christoff for bilaterals.org

* E.U.-drive free trade economics in Africa
Interview with Kiama Kaara IBON Foundation Africa

Listen to an interview with Kiama Kaara on the current E.U.-driven push towards
bilateral and regional trade accords in Africa, specifically focusing on the
perspectives of social movements in Africa to the terms of trade and economic
policy written into the wave of E.U. trade agreements pending throughout
Africa. Beyond examining the current critiques in African civil-society towards
the push towards bilateral trade agreements in 2010 this interview also
addresses the relationship between contemporary European trade policy in Africa
as related to the echo of colonialism in the past century.

* European trade neocolonialism in Caribbean
Interview with Norman Girvan professorial research fellow of International
Relations at the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad and
Tobago

Listen to an interview with Norman Girvan author and professor at the
University of the West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, who speaks
critically on the E.U.-driven economic partnership agreement with Caribbean
countries known as the CARIFORUM, an agreement pushed by E.U. trade negotiators
after the dissolution of the WTO negotiations in Cancun, Mexico. In this
interview Girvan offers perspectives on the relationship between current
European trade policy in the Caribbean and European legacy of colonization in
the region, offering perspectives on colonial echoes seen today in European
trade policy in the Caribbean.

* Reflections on Taiwan-China bilateral accord
Interview with Hungying Chen of the Asian Regional Exchange for New
Alternatives (ARENA)

Taiwan's parliament approved a historic Economic Co-operation Framework
Agreement (ECFA) with China in August 2010, removing tariffs on hundreds of
products while sparking major street protests in Taiwan in opposition to the
accord. Critiques in Taiwan directed at the bilateral trade agreement with
China range from a opposition rooted in powerful nationalist political parties
in Taiwan to an opposition that points to potentially damaging impacts of the
trade accord on environmental and labour standards in Taiwan.

In an interview for bilaterals.org Hungying Chen with Asian Regional Exchange
for New Alternatives (ARENA) outlines a critical perspective on the ongoing
political debate in Taiwan concerning the bilateral accord with China while
offering an analysis outlining a broader Asian and global regional context to
the bilateral agreement between China and Taiwan.

Disaster Risk Reduction Radio - case studies and resources wanted

CMFD (Community Media for Development) Productions is currently working with
the International Organization for Migration, INGC, and partners in
Mozambique to produce a manual for radio broadcasters about disaster risk
reduction, especially early warning systems and floods. This project follows
a previous serial radio drama produced last year on floods, Bravos do
Zambeze – more info can be found on our website:  http://www.cmfd.org/

We are interested in information about a broad range of resources available
for radio related to DRR (In English and Portuguese) for a resource list.

We are also drafting short case studies to include in the manual to
demonstrate good practices of how radio is being used for DRR. For the case
studies we are looking for information on:
• What was the radio programme or initiative? Please Describe
• What was the impact or audience response?
• Any challenges? How did they overcome?
• Any campaigns or resources CR should be aware of? (
• Contact Info?

[creative-radio] CKUT radio: Popular protests in Palestine

* CKUT radio: Popular protests in Palestine
interview with Palestinian writer/author Ali Abunimah

by Stefan Christoff

Listen to an interview with Palestinian writer/author Ali Abunimah on the
growing popular protest movement against Israeli apartheid in Gaza, throughout
the West Bank and particularly in the agricultural village of Bil?in.

Popular protests are growing in the West Bank, pointing to an expanding,
organized grassroots response to the Israeli military occupation at the
community-based level in Palestine, a direct response to the realities of
Israeli apartheid beyond the Palestinian Authority politicians walking the
halls of political power in D.C. pushing forward a negotiation process that has
lead to little results.

Bil'in village's creative protest tactics have drawn international attention
and endorsements from global political voices such as The Elders group lead-by
South Africa's Desmond Tutu. Bil'in the film has also been the focus of films
such as Bil'in Habibti, an progressive Israeli film that documents the popular
struggle against the wall in Bil'in. Beyond Palestine, Bil'in launched a
historic lawsuit in Montreal, Quebec against two corporations, Green Park and
Green Mount International, who are currently constructing Israeli-only
settlements on the Palestinian lands of Bil'in, lands stolen via the Israeli
apartheid wall.

resources. Programs can be organized into subject and type categories for
easy finding or searched using a Google-like search engine. And it is free

Creative-Radio is an independent forum for people active in or interested in the use of radio in development, in particular promoting public health, improved education, protection of the environment, improved livelihoods, good governance and conflict mitigation. Since it started in 1996, Creative-Radio has been in the forefront of radio's resurgence as a tool for social change and peace-building, and it helps promote best practice in these areas.
