I've just got back from the Global Forum for Media Development in
Athens, Greece, where I interviewed a number of fascinating and
inspiring figures from the world of media development, journalism,
academia, activism and human rights, including:

Fackson Banda - http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/facksonbanda
Catalina Botero - http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/catalinabotero
Jaime Abello - http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/JaimeAbello/English
A S Panneerselvan -
http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/aspanneerselvan/english
Warren Feek - http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/warrenfeek
Jane Ransom - http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/janeransom
Sunanda Deshapriya -
http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/sunandadeshapriya/english
Premesh Chandran -
http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/premeshchandran/english
and Alan Johnston - http://hub.witness.org/en/udhr60/alanjohnston

These interviews form part of WITNESS' campaign for the 60th
anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR60) -
it's all explained at the following link:
http://hub.witness.org/udhr60 - but below I'll explain a little more.
Either way, I would love to have the thoughtful and diverse
creative-radio community participate, and you can find out more below.

WITNESS (where I work) uses video to document and expose human rights
violations - but at one time or another we've all experienced the
power of visual images to make us feel what someone else feels, to see
with their eyes, to be inspired by their courage in the face of
oppression. So we asked our staff, family and friends to record a
60-second video or post a comment answering this simple question:
"What image opened your eyes to human rights?" You can talk about a a
video or a photo, a news report or a mobile phone clip, when you were
young, or quite recently, something uplifting or something bleak.

As you can see above, I've spoken to a series of fascinating people
about this, as have colleagues - and I would be honoured if you'd give
it some thought today, and share your answers with us too... You can
do it in a variety of ways - by video, ideally, by posting a comment,
by blogging about your choice, by forwarding this on to 5 friends or
colleagues you think might want to share their choice too:

- on the Hub - http://hub.witness.org/udhr60 - upload a video, post a
comment, join the Hub
- on Facebook - www.facebook.com/witness - record a video, change your
status, join the Cause...
- on YouTube - www.youtube.com/witness - record a video, post a
comment, friend us
- on Seesmic - www.seesmic.com - participate in the video conversation
- on Twitter - www.twitter.com - send a tweet with your choice, adding
#witnesshub
- on your blog - embed this video, and embed/write about your choice -
and tag your post udhr60 and witness
- if video is not a realistic possibility for you, feel free to create
an audio clip, or email your answer to me or to hub@witness.org
- take it offline - ask the question in your classroom, newsroom,
workplace, interpreters' booth...

Thanks for getting this far into the email, and I hope to see you
sharing a memory somewhere online over the coming weeks and months...

Yours, with best regards,
Sameer

The simple way to create surveys.

Intelligent survey software for primates of all species. SurveyMonkey has
a single purpose: to enable anyone to create professional online surveys
quickly and easily.

campaign, our pricing is straightforward and reasonable. In fact, it's
really a "no-brainer". At any time, you can upgrade your account
seamlessly, without losing any surveys or responses collected. If you

Select From Over 20 Types of Questions
We support everything from multiple choice to rating scales to open-ended
text. You can customize the layout of every question type for the ultimate
in design flexibility.

Use Our Survey Templates
Not experienced with survey design? Need a creative spark? We have over 50
survey templates in a variety of categories. Use one of our professionally
designed templates to jumpstart your survey design.

Validate Your Survey Responses
Advanced validation options allow you to require a particular number of
answers, or validate the text that is entered.

Create Popups
You can create a custom popup for your webpage that invites people to take
your survey, while letting your visitors opt-out easily to mininize
annoyance.

Add a Logo to Your Survey
Have your own organization's logo appear at the top of your survey. As a
reminder, SurveyMonkey has never accepted any advertising, so your surveys
maintain a professional appearance.

Randomize or Sort Your Question Choices
To help mininize "ordering bias", you can automatically randomize the
choices in your questions. If you have a long list of items, you can sort
them automatically.

Create a Simple Weblink
Collecting responses is as simple as sending out a link to your survey via
email, or posting the link on your website. Respondents simply click the
link to go directly to your survey.

Save Your Survey as a PDF
Need to bring a copy of your survey to a meeting? Need to collect
responses "offline"? With one click, you can generate a version of your
survey that is specifically designed for printing.

Download Your Results
With one click, you can download a summary of your results in multiple
formats. If you're a statistics nut, you can download all of the raw data
you've collected either as a spreadsheet, or in database format. As a
reminder, all the data you collect remains absolutely private.

Subject: [moderatorcentral] Join Bug affecting Yahoo! Broadband Partner
Users (AT&T, Rogers, BT, and more)

http://tinyurl.com/partnerjoinbug

There is currently a bug that is preventing Yahoo! Broadband partner
users (which include AT&T/SBCGlobal, Rogers, Verizon, British Telecom,
Telecom New Zealand) from being able to join (or create) groups on the
web. This bug has the same root cause as the similar problem affecting
YMail and Rocketmail users (and the experience for the user is a similar
loop), but the work around to solve the problem is slightly different.

For the moment, these users must first create an alias before they can
create a group. To do so, they should:
- Go to http://manage.members.yahoo.com/FULLEMAILADDRESSHERE
(replacing "FULLEMAILADDRESSHERE" with their full email address. So, for
example, if the user's email address was jerry313@att.net, they would
enter http://manage.members.yahoo.com/jerry313@att.net )
- Click on the "View My Profiles" link in the navigation at the top of
the page
- Click the "Create New Public Profile" button
- Once finished, click the "Finished Editing" button

Now these users should be able to join (or create) groups. Meanwhile,
we're working on a fix to make this work around unnecessary. And these
users can also be added to a group (or can subscribe via email by
sending email to GROUPNAME-subscribe@yahoogroups.com) without going
through this process either.

Sorry for the extra hassle for these folks.
