[creative-radio] Looking for radio volunteers for projects in South Africa and Borneo

We are looking volunteers with experience in radio or radio training to
work with us on the installation of a radio training facility in South
Africa and a new community radio station in Borneo. The South Africa
project involves installing a radio / recording studio into a 40ft
shipping container which will be used to teach radio production skills
and record local bands and choirs. The facility will be based at
Waterberg Welfare Society, an HIV/AIDS clinic and orphanage based two
hours north of Johannesburg in South Africa. We are looking for
volunteers to help train up the staff at the orphanage to be able to
teach radio skills and record local bands and choirs, with the aim of
turning the facility into a community radio station in the future.
Dates: between November 10th and December 10th 2010. We have had a
volunteer drop out, so we are looking for someone at fairly short
notice. You may volunteer for 1 week - 1 month. If you have radio
experience, speak good English and are up for an adventure as well as
the opportunity to share your skills to support a rural community radio
station, we would like to hear from you! You will have pay for your own
flight out to Johannesburg, but local transport, food and accomodation
will be paid for by WWS.
For more information on WWS, please visit their site:

<http://www.waterbergwelfaresociety.org.za/> --- The Borneo project
involves setting up Bario Radio, a new community radio station and
telecentre in a rural community in Borneo, in an area where there is no
existing local radio coverage. The station will provide a platform for
local discussion, communication, dissemination of information and the
promotion of local culture and community development. We are looking
for volunteers to work with the RadioActive team to get the station set
up and teach radio skills to the local community station staff so that
they can run their station effectively. If you are interested in
volunteering, speak good English and have experience in radio, please
get in touch! Expected dates: early January 2010 for one - two months.
You will have pay for your own flight out to Miri (MYY airport code),
but local transport, food and accomodation will be paid for. Please
visit our website: www.radioactive.org.uk

If you are interested in volunteering, please send an email saying which
of these projects you are interested in with your CV to

email me at the email above. Thanks, Max -- Max Graef

Creative-Radio is an independent forum for people active in or interested in the use of radio in development, in particular promoting public health, improved education, protection of the environment, improved livelihoods, good governance and conflict mitigation. Since it started in 1996, Creative-Radio has been in the forefront of radio's resurgence as a tool for social change and peace-building, and it helps promote best practice in these areas.
