Le régime du président Jammeh a intensifié la répression contre les
journalistes gambiens avec l'arrestation de huit journalistes, dont
sept déjà inculpés, rapportent des associations de défense de la liberté
de la presse. Le premier groupe de 7 journalistes, qui avaient tous été
arrêtés le 15 juin 2009 ont été entendus par la Justice et inculpés pour
propos « séditieux », alors que le huitième arrêté le 18 juin, attend
d'être fixé sur son sort. Tous les journalistes arrêtés travaillent pour
The Point, journal privé co-fondé par le défunt Deyda Hydara ou pour
Foroyaa, journal appartenant à un parti d'opposition.
